Customs and history of the Jewish community in Buenos Aires
4 h
Om den här aktiviteten
You will meet your guide who will take you in a private vehicle for your 4 hour tour, on which you will be taken to the most emblematic places of culture and Jewish history in Buenos Aires, starting with the places where the first immigrants settled. You can experience in depth the true spirit of the community by visiting places like the Plaza de la Memoria where for more than 40 years the Jewish Embassy was located, until it became the victim of a terrorist attack in 1992. You will arrive at the Plaza de Mayo in the center of the city to visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires and see a Jewish tribute and find out more about the relationship that the community had with former Argentine President Juan Domingo Perón.
You can tour the emblematic Jewish quarter of Once and see the AMIA, the organization where all the Jewish institutions in Argentina come together, world famous for the horrific terrorist attack the building suffered in 1994. You will visit the shmates area and you can eat in the only kosher McDonald’s in the world outside of Israel. You will learn more about Jewish culture by walking and taking in the atmosphere of the neighborhood and, heading to the nearest subway station, you can visit the new monument dedicated to the last victims of the attacks.
You will continue the tour to visit some synagogues and Cafe Tortoni, one of the oldest cafes in Buenos Aires, and see the tribute to César Tiempo, a Jewish writer and journalist.
The tour lasts 4 hours. You will visit everything described above, but you can also decide with your guide which places you would most like to discover. For example, you can go inside the AMIA, but you should take into account that this takes approximately 1 hour and maybe you will not have time to visit the monument to the victims of the attack on the subway and Café Tortoni. The tour can also be extended (up to 8 hours or more) so that you can continue with our guide to visit other emblematic places of Jewish history in Buenos Aires, such as the largest mosque of South America in Palermo, the Anne Frank Museum, Plaza San Martín and hear the story of Sara Russ (one of the famous mothers of Plaza de Mayo and survivor of the Shoa), among others.

A very complete but rather rushed 9am-1pm private tour with local Jewish guide Jessica and private driver. The price is quite high, and doesn't include admission to AMIA and synagogue. Be prepared with passport, and necessary passport information sent to tour guide in advance, due to security measures. It would be difficult to do this tour on your own. Just wish that it was more leisurely, maybe a Jewish food snack break, and not so pricey.
