Begin your private tour of Hue with pickup from your hotel by private vehicle, and head out for a full day of sightseeing in Vietnam’s former capital. First, your private guide will take you on a 1to1.5-hour tour of Hue Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the former Imperial Palace. Modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing, Hue Citadel consists of a royal palace, tombs, hallways and ornate temples that showcase the former capital city’s regal past.
Walk around the complex, located inside high stone walls, with your guide and learn about Hue’s Nguyen Emperors who ruled the former capital of Vietnam until the early 20th century. Bombed by both French and American forces, and heavily damaged during the 1968 Tet Offensive, much of the Imperial City lies in ruins and is slowly being restored to its former glory.
Once you’ve explored the grounds and discovered Hue’s royal treasures, enjoy a relaxing 45-minute cruise on the enchanting Perfume River. Disembark for a brief visit to the seven-story Thien Mu Pagoda, the tallest pagoda in Vietnam, which stands on the northern bank of the meandering river.
After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, set out on a tour of the Emperor's residence, located about six miles (10 km) away from Hue in a surrounding countryside of lush pine forest. See two of the most impressive Royal Tombs – Tu Duc Tomb and Khai Dinh Tomb – the final resting place of the Nguyen Emperors. As you follow your guide around the beautiful complexes set amid temples, courtyards and pavilions, admire the ornate tombs built above ground to honor the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty.
Your private tour of Hue ends with private transport back to your hotel.

This was a great tour. We had a wonderful guide named Hoa who provided us with a ton of information and captured some great photos for us. The tour lasted just the right amount of time so we were not complete exhausted when we got back to our hotel. The only downfall to the tour was during the boat ride down the Perfume River. The family's boat we were on was very nice and they offered us tea and snacks. But shortly after enjoying our first cup of tea, she pulled out a bunch of clothes and t-shirts and pretty much harassed everyone in our group to buy something. There was one point where our guide was trying to tell us some information but he was over shadowed by this lady standing in front of the boat waving at all of us to buy something. When he told her to stop, she just ignored him and pretty much tried to sell us something up until the point we literally stepped off her boat.
We had an excellent day of touring the city. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we covered the areas well. It gave us a good history of Hue. We had an excellent lunch stop, which really added to the fantastic day. The day we visited the sites was wet, rainy and cold but we still managed to thoroughly enjoy ourselves, helped by our excellent guide. There is no need to buy on the Perfume River Cruise boat as you will see the same type of souvenirs all over the city, where you can barter for a lot cheaper. We would highly recommend this tour.
We were picked up on time by guide Phi and driver. Tour of the Imperial City and tombs was very interesting with good commentary from Phi. Highly recommended. Lunch was good.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR 14 DAY MALAYSIA/VIETNAM TRIP. OUR GUIDE, CHRISTINA , BY FAR THE BEST TOUR GUIDE WE HAD ON THE TRIP. AS AN ASIDE ... HUE IS THE MOST INTERESTING HISTORICAL SITE IN VIETNAM. WILL SPEND DAYS THERE NEXT TRIP. HOI AN IS A HALF DAY AT MOST TOURIST TRAP.
