Leave your centrally located Marseille hotel by air-conditioned minivan and travel inland with your guide to the elegant Provencal town of Aix-en-Provence. Stroll through Aix’s streets on a walking tour and browse the wares at one of the town’s bustling markets.

After exploring, enjoy some time at leisure in the town to soak up the ambiance and have lunch (own expense). Your guide will happily give you tips for the best places to eat or to simply sit and watch the world go by.

Meet your guide back at a pre-arranged time, and leave Aix by minivan to travel to the stunning Valensole Plateau – an area that bursts to life in the summer with a fragrant abundance of lavender and almond trees. Aptly translated from Latin as ‘valley of the sun,' Valensole is perfectly positioned with its warm climate and fertile ground to grow huge swathes of lavender. As you travel through its picture-perfect streets, stop for photos in the magnificent lavender fields, and then explore Valensole village at leisure, perhaps shopping for lavender flowers and essential oils to take home.

Return to Marseille in the late afternoon, passing through more picturesque stretches of Provence countryside on the way to the coast. Your tour ends back at your Marseille hotel.

This tour is absolutely wonderful. The first stop was at Aix en Provence for a nice walk through the city and some light shopping or breakfast (awesome history and architecture!), followed by a stop in the adorable town of Valensole for lunch. (Service is quite slow and the few restaurants are quite crowded here, so I would almost recommend discussing with your guide to eat in Provence and just talk a walk or have dessert and shop in Valensole). Finally the lavender fields. There are so many and a lot of them are filled with people taking photos already, so iit can be overwhelming, but our sweet guide was so patient in finding us the exact field to carry out the vision I had for photos. She even took photos of my husband I in the fields for us (which turned out amazing!). She made suggestions for stops, but let’s us decide what we wanted to do; she also brought us to a wonderful little lavender farm that had almond and olive trees where we tasted lavender syrup and ice cream (highly recommend this stop)! Such a refreshing treat on a warm sunny day and a great way to end your tour. She also gave us great information about the types of lavender and the area. Overall it exceeded my expectations and I could not have been happier with the day. We felt as though our guide was a longtime friend which made it even better.
