Meet your private guide at your central Shanghai hotel at 9am or your preferred start time as stated in the Special Requests field on booking. Tell your guide if there’s anything you want to see more of on your tour: your itinerary is flexible and can be customized around you.
When you book, choose to travel by private vehicle with lunch and Yu Garden and Jade Buddha Temple admission included, or opt to explore by public transport or private vehicle with lunch and entrance fees at your own expense.
Start at Shanghai’s French Concession, once the center of colonial life and now a hip area. Visit the ‘French Park,’ to see locals enjoying activities like ballroom dancing, Tai-chi, singing, and water calligraphy, and stroll around the Concession with its charming avenues of ‘French trees’ and traditional houses.
Next, visit one of Shanghai’s most active temples: Jade Buddha. Admire its two exquisite Jade Buddha statues from Myanmar and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere as you hear about local Buddhist culture and history.
Visit People’s Square, a garden-like square great for watching locals go about their daily life. View the striking modern architecture of buildings like the Shanghai Museum and Urban Planning Hall, and if it’s the weekend and the weather is dry, see the interesting ‘Marriage Market’.
Have an authentic Shanghai lunch of select dumplings, noodles, meat, and vegetables, or ask your guide to recommend another restaurant if you have special dietary needs.
Afterward, visit the 500-year old classic Chinese Yu Garden, and view the traditional Qing-Dynasty architecture of the Old Town Bazaar. See the Huxingting Tea House near the ‘Nine Zigzag’ bridge and enjoy free time to shop for tea, antiques, jade, pearls, silk, and other wares. If you wish, experience a tea ceremony (own expense) and sample some high quality local tea.
Next, travel to The Bund, the colonial-era promenade along the Huangpu River. Admire the stunning views of old and new Shanghai, including buildings such as the Bund's Old Customs House and iconic skyscrapers like the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Financial Tower, Jinmao Tower, and Shanghai Tower.
If it’s a clear day, visit one of the towers' observation decks for bird’s-eye views, and then walk along Riverside Promenade (Binjiang Da Dao). Afterwards, explore the trendy Xintiandi quarter, where traditional shikumen houses, homes to the middle classes in the 1920s and 1930s, testify to Shanghai’s one-time European glamor.
Aside from the above itinerary, talk to your guide about experiencing other attractions such as Shanghai Museum, Tianzifang Art area, the Jewish Ghetto, Nanjing Road, and the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Center, or riding the city’s magnetic-levitation Maglev Train or other activities.
Your tour ends with a drop-off at your central hotel or other downtown area of your choice.

A great way to tour the city and learn so much about its history and current events from an expert. Highly recommend to groups, families and those traveling solo.
Service was very good. From contacting us in email to personally meeting the our tour guide Lily. She was amazing. Knows and understand Shanghai very well. All of our questions was answered. Also, didnt have a hard time during the tour because she knows English well. We are very thankful that we booked this tour!
My guide, Annie, not only speaks excellent English, but she also has profound knowledge of the Chinese history and culture. She traveled outside of China herself, so she has good views of China, too. She customized my tour based on my preferences and took me to a delicious (but cheap) local wanton noodle restaurant. I really enjoyed spending a day with her. Thanks, Annie!
Lily was an amazing guide. We had such a good time and learned many new things. She adjusted the agenda to our wants and desires, while making sure we saw both the new and the old. She also let us use her for 2 more hours than originally scheduled at a reasonable price for one more adventure. To top it all off, she escorted us to the train station to make sure we caught the correct train back to Nanjing.
I took the Shanghai private tour. Feifei the guide was on time prominently positioned in the lobby. She is fluent in English and very knowledgeable about the city and the country in general. She is quite happy to answer queries. Very professional and very efficiently managed. Well done and well worth it. 5 stars!
Our day began with Rita meeting us at our hotel with a great smile and full of enthusiasm. Her English was perfect and after introductions escorted us to a new van where our driver for the day expedited our destination throughout the day. As the tour promised we began with the new Shanghai statarting with the “Bund District” where she explained not only architecture of the area but the history. Throughout the day we visited the trendy highlights of the French concessions to the Yu gardens of old. Everything was explained perfectly and all our questions answered. Lunch at a local restaurant was a wonderful experience and we ate more than I thought possible not wanting to miss a single delicacy. We continued on to the Tianzifang Market area where local vendors sold everything you could ever want. We were whisked around the city covering in 8 hours more than we could have ever done in 3 days. With limited time I felt we were able to get to know the real Shanghai and appreciate the local culture without the feeling that we missed a lot. Rita was wonderful and we appreciated her attention to detail
We booked the all-inclusive private full day tour: Shanghai old and new highlights with Sunny as our tour guide. She was extremely professional, friendly, attentive to our needs, and provided detailed history of Shanghai during each point of our tour. She took us to the specific locations based on the minimal amount of tourists visiting the sites at that time, so we were able to enjoy the scenic destinations as much as possible. While the tour was intense so that we can fit all the destinations in, we did not feel rush. We definitely recommend this tour or any other tour with Sunny.
Great tour! We started out this tour first, since we wanted to know a little bit about Shanghai that way we know where to go eat or hang out at night time. Sunny was our tour guide for the day and she picked us up on time at the hotel. Since our hotel was near by a few popular activities, so we walked to the Old Shanghai for about 1 hr. tour and she explained to us a few special stores. Then we went to the Yu Garden for about 1-2 hours in the garden. The Yu Garden was Gorgeous! She talked about the history of the garden and showed us around the garden. Then she showed us the Bund. When we got to the Bund she explained the histor and things about area. My wife wanted some bobatea drink so she asked the driver to dropped us at one of the entrances that have good bobatea stand. Then we went to the temple. Beautiful temple! She was very patient with us while we did some praying. She explained to us about the temple and what each statue means. Lunch was delicious! My wife wanted to buy some tea, so our last stop, she took us to the tea shopping mall. Wish that we would have more time to browser around the mall. Thank you Sunny for the lovely day.
The Shanghai city tours - indeed Shanghai is a vibrant city, full of life. The buildings and architecture are very impressive. Fei Fei was our tour guide, and she is fluent in English and efficient in presenting the history of the places. We as a group, thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would not hesitate to give our thumbs-up for the tour guide plus the tour.
