Stop At: Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street), Jishan Street, New Taipei 22450 Taiwan
Shuinandong, Jinguashi, and Jiufen are former mining towns in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. The three towns present living records of the history and culture of Taiwan's mining industry, each one distinguished by the different mining methods they adopted: the simple charm of Shuinandong; the tranquility of Jinguashi; and the traces of the miners' nightlife in Jiufen. Though the gold mines are now closed, these towns continue to exert an allure that attracts visitors to visit and dream.
Here you can never miss the most popular local delicacy “taro and sweet potato balls” made of fresh taro, sweet potato and sticky rice.
Duration: 1 hour 20 minutes
Stop At: Nanya Rock Area, Coastal Highway, New Taipei Taiwan
Noted for its fantastic rock formations and sea-eroded coral shore. The entire coastline here is a veritable sculpture garden that illustrates, in stone, the incomparable artistry of weathering and wave action. The patterned stone topography of Nanya, unique in Taiwan, was formed through the weathering of the sandstone that lines the shore. The oxidation of iron ore within the striations of the stone has given it a beautiful striped pattern.
Duration: 10 minutes
Pass By: Yin Yang Sea (陰陽海), 226 (ROC), 瑞芳區新北市 Taiwan 224
A bay where the sea is spilt into yellow and blue; these two complementary colors call to mind Chinese Ying and Yang symbol, hence it is also called Yin Yang Sea. In the past, the locals believed the phenomena was caused by chemical runoff. However the recent examination of the waters showed the coloring was caused by the insoluble floating iron ion.
Pass By: Jinguashi 13 Ruins, Ruifang Dist., New Taipei Taiwan
Dubbed as “the Thirteen Levels”, the old copper refinery is also called “the Potala Palace of Mountain Mines” as it looks like a beautiful abandoned palace far away. The parking lot at ShueiNanDongand the lookout pavilion in Changren community provide an incredible view. Music videos of famous songs are shot here, too. The building has the longest gas pipe in the world, which is 2 kilometers in length and 2 meter in diameter. Due to possible fatal accidents, visitors are not permitted to enter the pip.

I enjoyed this tour. A great way to see this quaint little village tucked away in the northeast coast of Taiwan. Walter, our guide, was knowledgeable.
This half-day tour was great for our short stay in Taipei, Taiwan. We really enjoyed what we got to see. Finding the pick-up location was easy and we enjoyed seeing the coast and especially Jiufen! Unfortunately the market street in Jiufen were crazy packed since it was a holiday in China and there were lots of visitors to Taiwan but otherwise great tour and great bus accommodations. The tour guide spoke English but was a bit hard to understand, but I was ok with this as I'm the type of traveler who likes to explore on my own anyways, this was just a great way to see this area on a tight schedule.
Guide was very knowledgeable and was very helpful. He told us the history of Jioufen and how it manages to survive in modern times.
1 Van driver was very reckless and speeding and not stopping at traffic lights, especially during coastal drive along the north east shore of KeeLung. He would avoid stopping the van at traffic light with 7 tourists, and 1 tour guide by swirling around all the stopped cars to get ahead. He almost hit numerous cars ahead of us before a bridge heading out of Taipei city, all our belongings flew to the floor of the van. 2 tour guide was good, but we stopped too long by the coast for really no reason. 3 Main portion of the tour to Chiufen was way too short, and the we barely had 1/2 hour to see the area by ourselves 4 I would recommend hiring a private driver, and spend the time to tour the very mountainous area, rather than sweating riding in the van w/the reckless driver.
It could have been better if it was not raining. We had showers most of the time along the coastline and pouring at Jiufen village.
